See full text <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=vision-mission-and-practice\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following is a list of the type of activities ACT undertakes with some examples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a><strong><u>Engagement with councils<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Published and presented a <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=resources-pack-for-town-and-parish-councils\">Resource Pack for Town &amp; Parish Councils<\/a>.&nbsp; Worked direct with 21 local Teignbridge councils and with TDC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engaged with TDC Planning re implementation of exiting local plan (<strong>LP<\/strong>) policies and development of future LP policies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provided ad-hoc support to TDC officers and councillors on a variety of projects\/initiatives: ecology; carbon footprint calculations; estate energy assessment; user-friendly carbon calculator; residents\u2019 drop-ins.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Participated in regular liaison meetings with TDC, these are expected to evolve into a more project-based structure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Responded in detail to all TDC consultations relating to climate and ecology mitigation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provided responses to many planning applications re non-adherence to TDC\/national policies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ww.actionclimateteignbridge.org\/\"><strong>Wildlife Warden scheme<\/strong><\/a><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Award-winning scheme. Trained over 100 volunteers covering almost all Teignbridge areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WW volunteers undertake projects in their areas: surveys; planting\/restoration; events; community gardens and orchards; rewilding; citizen science and monitoring projects; responding to consultations and planning applications.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WW volunteers are backed and supported by a paid scheme coordinator and ACT resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cc.actionclimateteignbridge.org\/home.html\"><strong>Carbon Cutter scheme<\/strong><\/a><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recently launched scheme.&nbsp; Trained 22 volunteer across Teignbridge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CC volunteers undertake community projects to help them engage with their energy use and associated carbon emissions.&nbsp; This can be through: gatherings with neighbours\/friends\/family; having a presence at local events; providing carbon cafes; giving talks\/presentations; supporting local groups\/organisations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CC volunteers are backed and supported by a paid scheme coordinator and ACT resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Engagement with the public<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Organised several ACT public events direct, e.g. Ashburton &amp; Dawlish presentations to local councils; Energy Road Show; members\u2019 gathering; EV event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presence\/stalls at a number of annual events, e.g. Dawlish GBGW; Newton Abbot Fayre; Dawlish Retrofit; Ogwell Energy Saving; Totnes Energy Wise; Dawlish Turn The Tide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>On-line and traditional media<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Manage a Facebook page and developed own website(s) as a depository of information\/resources.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit\/publish regular articles and letters in the MDA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>ACT resources and support<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Developed a host of on-line tools and resources as well as props, stall materials, posters and games, e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=carbon-calculator\">CFT<\/a> and associated factors\/action lookup; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=local-plan-map\">GIS maps for Local Plan<\/a> and other data relating to WW &amp; CC schemes; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=planning-applications-tool\">planning application notification tool<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide regular opportunities for ACT members to participate in subject-specific discussions and initiatives.&nbsp; These cover: <a href=\"https:\/\/cc.actionclimateteignbridge.org\/home.html\">Carbon Cutters<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=ecology-group\">Ecology<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=economy\">Economy<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=built-environment\">Energy &amp; Built Environment<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=food-farming-fishing-and-forestry\">Food, Farming, Forestry &amp; Fisheries<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=public-engagement\">Public Engagement<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/page.html?slug=transport\">Transport<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/ww.actionclimateteignbridge.org\/\">Wildlife Wardens<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-secondary-color\">Greenhouse gas emissions<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greenhouse gas (<strong>ghg<\/strong>) emissions are the cause of climate change.&nbsp; It is the amount of these in the atmosphere, measured in parts per million (<strong>ppm<\/strong>), that have a direct link to man-made temperature rise.&nbsp; Net-Zero is a dangerous diversion as it ignores how much ghg we emit in the intervening period, this is the Carbon Budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to for \u201cTeignbridge District Council to achieve its Part 1 and 2 Carbon Reduction Plans and to ensure Teignbridge is on a path to achieve no more than 1.5C of warming\u201d, we need to measure and manage our ghg emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following actual\/target annual carbon footprints provide a measure of progress to date for in-house TDC, Teignbridge as a whole and new housing developments.&nbsp; All ghg emissions are consumption based CO2equivalent (<strong>CO2e<\/strong>) in units of kilo-tonne (<strong>kt<\/strong>) or Mega-tonne (<strong>Mt<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historic emissions up to 2021 are government or TDC sourced.&nbsp; Planned\/projected emissions for 2021 onwards are TDC sourced or based on the UK\u2019s legally binding Carbon Budgets.&nbsp; Note that these legal UK budgets only assume a 50% likelihood of remaining below the 1.5<sup>O<\/sup>C atmospheric temperature rise.&nbsp; We have included the IPCC Paris-agreement compliant carbon budgets which require a 67% likelihood of remaining below 1.5<sup>O<\/sup>C as a comparison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Teignbridge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teignbridge consumption emissions 2019-21 have been calculated from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/statistics\/final-uk-greenhouse-gas-emissions-national-statistics-1990-to-2021\">DEFRA published UK consumption emissions<\/a>.&nbsp; These are allocated pro-rata in line with population.&nbsp; This together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukdsi\/2021\/9780348222616\">projected legal annual carbon budgets<\/a> are shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"284\" class=\"wp-image-4751\" style=\"width: 500px;\" https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Teignbridge-ghg-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>TDC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consumption emissions arising from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teignbridge.gov.uk\/environmental-health-and-wellbeing\/climate-change\/climate-change-emergency\/teignbridge-district-council-carbon-footprint\/\">TDC\u2019s operations for 2019-21<\/a> and proposed\/planned annual emissions based on <a href=\"https:\/\/democracy.teignbridge.gov.uk\/documents\/s15407\/Appendix%20A%20-%20Part%201%20Carbon%20Action%20Plan.pdf\">TDC Carbon Plan part 1<\/a> are shown here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"301\" class=\"wp-image-4754\" style=\"width: 500px;\" src=\"https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/TDC.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/TDC.jpg 480w, https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/TDC-300x181.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a><\/a><a><\/a><strong>New Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.igbc.ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/RICS-Methodology_embodied_carbon_materials_final-1st-edition.pdf\">RICS<\/a>, a new build house has embodied emissions of between 435 and 585 kg CO2e\/m2 An average new build house has a floor area of 76m<sup>2<\/sup> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.savills.co.uk\/research_articles\/229130\/188035-0\">(Savils 2015<\/a>) ., so it would have embedded emissions of about 38 t CO2e each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each additional household will add a further 14.5 t CO2e \/ year from those who live in it (assuming the Newton Abbot average household consumption emissions from the Impact tool)<a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The consumption based ghg emissions from housing developed in 2019-21 and a 720 houses per year projection is shown below.&nbsp; We believe this burden on the remaining carbon budget can be mitigated within current UK building regulations, please refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/ACT-Local-Plan-response-to-CC2-v1.0.pdf\">ACT\u2019s response to the LP consultation on
