The main purpose of these meetings is to give everyone an opportunity to ask questions or discuss topics related to energy, the built environment and transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not the first time this topic has been discussed.&nbsp; Some of the suggestions to get different people involved include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In-person meetings, ideally at someone volunteers their home or place of work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pre-select a topic to focus on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vary the meeting times to include a 7pm start, keeping the same 4 week interval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It would be good to hear from the 151 ACT members who have asked to receive information on these topics.&nbsp; Let me know what you think and what would interest you in either coming to one of these meetings or reading the notes that are sent out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Devon Retrofit Guide:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We looked at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energysavingdevon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2023\/08\/230731_2067_Devon-Retrofit_-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Devon Retrofit Guide<\/a> which I\u2019d mentioned in the last set of notes.&nbsp; This is well worth a brows if you are thinking of having any work done to your property.&nbsp; You can also register to get a residential assessment under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energysavingdevon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/44\/2023\/08\/230731_2067_Devon-Retrofit_-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Energy Saving Devon scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Practical list of actions added to the CFT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve now released the search\/lookup for action you can take after completing your Carbon Footprint Tracker (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/teignenergycommunities.co.uk\/carbonfootprint\/carbonfootprint_V4_5_2\/cft.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CFT<\/a><\/strong>).&nbsp; At the meeting we explored some of these actions and how this is not just another general list. &nbsp;You can access the tool from the CFT \u2018Results\u2019 tab by clicking the highlighted \u201cPossible Actions\u201d which will open\/highlight the text for this.&nbsp; There you will see \u201clist of actions\u201d which you can click to take you to the tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have a go and send me your feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More on heat pump case study:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was more detail provided on the relative cost of this \u2018typical\u2019 heat pump installation.&nbsp; You can find out how financial costs compare to mains gas for this example <a href=\"https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/ACT-Case-Studies-v0.11.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>, see section 5.3 para starting \u201cMy running costs\u2026\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How Bad are Bananas!:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some call it a \u2018bible\u2019, unsurprising given its sub-title \u201cThe Carbon Footprint of Everything\u201d.&nbsp; We take it everywhere, most recently to our stall at the <a href=\"https:\/\/actionclimateteignbridge.org\/newsite\/post.html?slug=act-at-newton-abbot-fayre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newton Abbot Fayre<\/a>.&nbsp; This <a href=\"https:\/\/howbadarebananas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second edition<\/a> has been updated to reflect the latest data available.&nbsp; It also now has a clear intro to how our behaviour contributes to climate change and, at the end of the book, what we can do about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CFT uses very similar data sources and methodology.&nbsp; As an on-line tool, the CFT is updated annually and reflects your emissions rather than average national\/international ones.&nbsp; You can also lookup emissions for specific food\/goods\/services by using the tool provided in the help panel for these categories. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A 3-D printed wind turbine:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jules explained his interest in building a small wind turbine using 3D printing.&nbsp;
