{"id":1475,"date":"2020-03-04T10:18:05","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T10:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/?p=1475"},"modified":"2020-03-04T20:39:36","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T20:39:36","slug":"act-launches-resources-pack-for-town-and-parish-councillors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/backup.act.stringerhj.co.uk\/oldsite\/index.php\/2020\/03\/04\/act-launches-resources-pack-for-town-and-parish-councillors\/","title":{"rendered":"ACT launches resources pack for town and parish councillors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ACT has put together an information and\nresources pack designed to help councils work with their communities to reduce\ncarbon emissions, protect the environment and achieve carbon neutrality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The launch of the pack follows the two\nworkshops ACT convened in February to facilitate a discussion among councillors\non the challenges we all face in taking effective climate action and to\nexchange ideas on how to tackle those challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resources pack contains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An overview offering guidelines on declaring an emergency and developing an action plan<\/li><li>An explanation of why it is a climate emergency, what are the consequences of a changing climate, what we can do, and setting emissions targets<\/li><li>A guide to what local councils can do, including ideas on community engagement and how to put climate and ecological considerations at the heart of councils\u2019 statutory responsibilities<\/li><li>Ideas for actions councils can take to measure and reduce emissions within the built environment and primary energy generation<\/li><li>A section on food, farming and forestry plus ecology, looking at encouraging local food production, involving farmers in improving carbon sequestration, extending tree cover, and how to help wildlife\u00a0 <\/li><li>A section on transport, noting it is the biggest source of carbon emissions in Teignbridge (51%) and highlighting possible actions to remedy that.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The pack also advises that ACT\u2019s topic groups\ncan help with information, guidance and signposting once a council has chosen\nits first initiative in a particular area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pack will evolve over time and ACT welcomes feedback and input.
